Every time we meet a new cohort of students stepping into the BricksFolios Summer Business Internship, we’re reminded of why we created this program in the first place.

It’s not just about teaching real estate. It’s not even just about business.

It’s about unlocking a new way of thinking about money, opportunity, and ultimately, freedom.

Seeing Beyond the Obvious

Most of us grow up with a very narrow lens around money:

  • Work hard → Earn more → Save what’s left → Someday, retire.

But wealth isn’t built that way. Wealth is intentional. It’s strategic. And it starts with how you think.

When students come into this internship, many see real estate as simply buying a home. By Day 2, they start to see it as something far more powerful:

✅ A hedge against inflation
✅ A cash flow machine
✅ A long-term equity builder
✅ A strategic asset, not just a roof

That shift—from “buying a property” to “buying an asset”—is transformational.

Why Tools Matter, But Mindset Matters More

In our sessions, we introduce tools like the Smart Hold Analysis and the Inbestments Platform.

They’re powerful because they help you see beyond surface-level data.
They show you the why behind decisions:

  • How does a small change in rent impact cash flow over 10 years?
  • What does refinancing really do to your long-term equity?
  • Should you hold, sell, or improve a property?

But here’s the truth: tools are only as valuable as the mindset of the person using them.

That’s why this internship focuses on building clarity and confidence first. Because when you have the right lens, you start to see opportunities everywhere.

Bridging Generations Through Money Conversations

One of my favorite parts of this journey is seeing interns go home and have conversations with their families about wealth.

It’s simple questions like:

  • “What has owning a home meant for you?”
  • “How has real estate impacted our family’s financial future?”

Those conversations spark something deeper. They bridge the generational gap in financial literacy, and they plant seeds of understanding that will grow for decades.

Why This Matters for the Future

We’re not just teaching how to build a portfolio. We’re teaching:

  • How to think beyond the paycheck
  • How to align investments with life goals
  • How to use strategy—not luck—to create freedom

Because the future doesn’t belong to those who just work hard. It belongs to those who work smart, think ahead, and take intentional action.

My Reflection as a Founder

Watching these students question, learn, and evolve in just a few days is humbling. They’re proof that when you give young minds access to the right information and the right mentorship, they rise to the challenge.

This isn’t just an internship.
It’s a catalyst for a lifetime of smarter decisions, bigger dreams, and bolder leadership.

To every student who’s leaning into this experience you’re already ahead of the curve.

And to everyone watching from the sidelines—ask yourself how much longer you can afford to wait to learn what truly builds wealth.

Let’s keep raising the bar.

Only two sessions in, and I already see why this is more than just an internship. BricksFolios is helping me rethink everything I thought I knew about money, assets, and long-term planning. It’s not just about real estate—it’s about mindset. I’m excited for the sessions ahead and grateful to be part of a program that’s shaping how I see my future.

I totally agree with you. Just a couple sessions in, and it already feels like we’re being challenged to think on a whole new level. It’s rare to find a program that connects mindset with strategy so intentionally. I am very grateful to be a part of this incredible journey!

I came into the internship thinking I’d just learn about real estate as an investment class but what we’re learning goes so much deeper. It’s changing how I think about money, time, and the kind of future I want to build. In this journey I am learning to think long-term goals and convert them into reality. I’ve even started having real conversations with my family around money and housing and I am developing a lot more interest in this field then I thought i would. I am very grateful to be a part of this program and journey. Special thanks to Mr. Vinod and Mrs. Jo.

Every session keeps opening my eyes and knowledge more. I came in thinking real estate was just about buying property, but now I see it as a full system for building long-term freedom, one that you directly have control over, in comparison to the stock market. Grateful for this opportunity and excited to keep learning.

Case study: How can you use real estate to save taxes and build wealth if the property is purchased in July 2025 and sold in July 2029? During my time at the BricksFolios Real Estate Solutions summer internship, this is what I’ve learned:

    – New laws, such as OBBBA, has now allowed a 100% bonus depreciation on properties bought between Jan 20 2025 to Dec 31 2029. This 5 year sprint should be taken advantage of to maximize profits from your real estate portfolio.
    – With REP (Real Estate Professional) status, you can convert passive rental losses into active losses that you can state in your W-2 income to maximize tax loss revenue and claim depreciation.
    – Without REP status, you can still build wealth by using 1) cost segregation to lower taxable income, and by 2) accumulating losses to offset the gain from selling your interest to an unrelated party and turn the leftover into a non-passive loss you can use in your W-2 income.

This founder’s note really resonated with me, it highlights how BricksFolios is more than just an internship by blending practical experience with a real-world mindset. The emphasis on mentorship, growth, and ownership makes it clear that this program sets interns up for long-term success. Thank you for sharing this perspective, I’m excited to be part of a community that values both personal and professional development.

I am one of the interns that is currently about to finish this internship and I cant help but feel like incredibly lucky to have gotten this opportunity to learn so much about Real Estate. It is true about what Vinod and Jo say which is that “It’s about unlocking a new way of thinking about money, opportunity, and ultimately, freedom.” Throughout this internship they taught me that Real Estate needs to be seen as an asset and not just property that you own. Furthermore they extended my understanding of financial literacy by bringing up new terms such as REP, Cost Segregation, House Hacking and so much more. Thank you so much to Bricksfolios for this opportunity.
